Why Israel

Israel is an ideal holiday destination. It is rich in history, culture, and religion; it is affordable and has an excellent infrastructure; and it gives you a wonderful picture of both the current Middle East and its history.

Spiritual: Israel is the birthplace of both Judaism and Christianity and home to Islam's third holiest shrine. From Abraham to Joseph, from Joshua to Jesus to the destruction of Herod's Temple, Israel is where these tales unfold.

Rich: If you are seeking a spiritual experience, Israel can provide it as nowhere else. If you are seeking a deeper understanding of the foundation of western civilization, Israel can provide it as nowhere else. If you wish to truly understand the conflict between free and fundamentalist societies, Israel can provide it as nowhere else. And Israel is home to an enormous diversity of different societies.

Fun: Or perhaps you would like to experience the pleasures of floating in the saltiest lake in the world (some 9 times saltier than the sea) at the lowest point on the surface of the globe, 422 meters (1384 ft) below sea level. Or coat yourself in its mineral-rich mud.

Or maybe you'd like to try your hand at a little James Bond.

Or walk through Israel's blue grotto on the Mediterannean coastline or explore the myriad colors of Red Sea coral.

History: Aside from its Jewish past, over time Canaanites, Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians and Persians, Greeks, Romans and Arabs, European Crusaders, Turks and British have left their mark in Israel.

Nature: Alongside these historical remains, Israel offers an astonishing diversity in geology and geography, in flowers, plants and trees. The Great Rift Valley provides a bird migration route of global importance and Israel has magnificent beaches too.

Culture: Modern Israel also offers a variety of beautifully displayed museums and galleries, of music and nightlife, of food, fashion, shops and markets.

Feasibility: All of this can be enjoyed in an area the size of Wales, New Jersey or the Kruger National Park. But where it rains only in winter; where the sun always shines.

In short, Israel has something for everyone: from the highest spiritual planes to the lowest lake in the world.
